Uniform

That day I was on the rocks

Playing down by the water,

Why did you confront a child?

That child was me.

You were the military,

In your coast guard uniform,

Boots, boat, and gun.

You told me to go back inside

To go home to my parents,

But I was home.

Outside "the shop"

Where my dad worked.

I told you right where it was,

Only you didn't believe me,

Because I was six years old.

So I went back inside,

Thinking I had broken the law,

That I was at fault for playing.

But I felt that inside,

I was safe.

So I stayed there

At the desk, with the

Calculator, microwave, and Gameboy Advance

I was staying inside now,

With the walls and carpet.

The river and rocks couldn't come in.

They stayed outside.
